April Ross
April Ross has won more than one gold medal in the Olympic Games. She is one of the few female beach volleyball players that achieve this feat. Alix Kallineman will compete with April Ross Tokyo to win her third gold medal over the next few days. Ross wants to achieve more than just her first Olympic medal. And at the age of 39 this may be her last opportunity to accomplish this. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly on the horizon. Ross on NBC Boston, said that the team was confident that we would achieve a gold medal, when we play our best. Also, I'll take some chances. Ross was born on the 22, 1982, in Costa Mesa California. She lived there with her family. While at Newport Harbor High School, she competed in numerous sports. She played basketball and ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball accomplishments as a pre-collegiate athlete. However she was clearly a one of a kind when it came to the second sport. During her high school career she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter on the volleyball court per her college bio. Her achievements were acknowledged with her being selected as 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National Players of the Year. She also captured the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman have been doing what they do in the year 2017. However, Ross was already an established athlete in the scene of beach volleyball before the pairing. She has won major tournaments twice with different partners. In one of the tournaments, she is an icon in the world of volleyball. From 2007 until 2013, she was partnered with Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Together together with Kessy Ross, she won a World Title in 2009 while competing internationally. They eventually won gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor's famous team along with Kerri Jennings won the gold. It was fate that had them. Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner as May-Treanor stepped down. They went on to win the bronze medal in beach volleyball in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a player for the Trojans at USC during her college years after she graduated the high school she attended. Her time through the institution was quite impressive. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of Year in 2000. The team also saw her help in helping the Trojans reach the Final Four. Her sophomore season was the year she was devastated by a personal loss, yet was capable of being selected as an All-American. The last two years as a player, she steered the Trojans up to the top of the hill, capturing three consecutive championships at the national level. Individually, she cemented her place as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the highest female collegiate player in the country. Ross graduated with a degree in international relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the opportunity to see Ross' daughter blossom into the beach volleyball's biggest star. Ross's mother died in the year 2001. Ross was still a USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. Ross is still awed by her parents who passed away. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her both on and off the beach.
